Dundee scroll

This scroll, inscribed in red and black ink, is currently in the collection of the University of Dundee Museum.

The manuscript is listed in the book Cultures of the world: The Ethnographic collections of Dundee Art Galleries and Museums by Andrew Proctor, published in 1994.

The book entry reads:

L.100 x DI.40 1993-382
Parchment scroll inscribed in red and black ink. Said to have been found in the palace of the King of Abyssinia “at the taking of Magdala.” The Magdala hillfort was the fortress of King Theodore of Abyssinia which was stormed by the British expeditionary force led by Sir Robery Napier in 1868. This was in retaliation for a refusal to cooperate with the British.
University of Dundee 1993 19th Century
It also lists another scroll:
L.70 x DI.42 (Rolled up) 9999-1172
Long length of leather in three sections, inscribed in an Ethiopian script (“ge’ez”) and painted with figures and geometric patterns. Used for healing and protecting purposes.
But this one had no reference to Maqdala.
